Open Thread: Game 66 - Philadelphia vs. AAA's
By The Anti-Blez on Friday, June 17, 2005
Barry Zito will try to put his wannabe rock star guitarist career on hold for a few innings today and give the AAA's one of his trademark "quality starts" (5.1 innings, 5 BB, 2 K, 6 H, 2 HR, 4 ER).
That way, he'll be just good enough to lose the game and fall to 3-8 on the season.
Let's Go AAA's

Here's something to consider:
Zito's mentor is Randy Jones, a lefty who won the Cy Young in 1976, when he went 22-14.
Zito's father sent young Barry to private pitching lessons with Jones. Zito continues to "consult" with Jones" whenever he is having trouble with his mechanics (which is quite often nowadays).
What's interesting is that Zito's post-CYA career has been remarkably similar to Jones.
in 1977, Jones fell to 6-12. He pitched six more seasons after that, and had a losing record in each. He retired after the 1982 season with a career record of 100-123.
I see the same thing happening to Zito. He had one stellar Cy Young year, and has been a .500 pitcher ever since. This is his worst season ever, and I expect a few more just like it until he's put together a career of 100 or so wins and 100 or so losses.
Beane should have traded him long ago, when he still had value. Today, Zito is just another fourth man in the rotation.
lanceblankenship...
You're right! I actually hesitated before I posted that wee bit o' analysis.
I actually posted something very similar earlier this season on Asslickers Nation, but the T-shirt salesman got bent out of shape and criticized me for being critical of Zito.
Anyway, I honestly feel Zito is a product of the bad habits Randy Jones taught him.
In any case...
Zito gets shelled again, and the AAA's offense takes the night off again.
In other words...
BEANED AGAIN!
Oh, and signrickey is right:
The AAA's are once again the AA's.
Not just poo-thetic. SHIT-THETIC.
